Topic: Some people prefer to eat at food stands or restaurants. Other people prefer to prepare and eat food at home. Which do you prefer?
 
Eating preferences have varied greatly over the last hundred years. Today however, the debate is split between which is better for a number of factors. It is my personal opinion that it is better to prepare food at home, rather than going out to eat, under most circumstances.
 
Many factors contribute to whether we stay in or eat out, but I think that in today’s world, one of the biggest influences is cost. As food prices have risen year-on-year, it has become more common for consumers to choose the cheapest option. Sometimes, this may be as simple as choosing to make something like noodles at home, as opposed to eating the same bowl of noodles at a restaurant. Regardless, as food becomes more expensive in the future, it will likely have a compounding effect.
 
Another big reason people choose to eat at home is for health reasons. When eating out at restaurants or food carts, consumers run the risk of eating contaminated or undercooked dishes. Moreover, with recent food scandals appearing in the news, more people have become wary of trusting others’ cooking. This has become commonplace in regards to tainted oil and milk worries.
 
One of the biggest disadvantages to cooking at home, however, is the amount of time required to prepare a meal. Not only must the groceries be purchased, cleaned, and chopped; but also, depending on what is being cooked, it can take up to many hours to complete the task. Moreover, when cooking at home, you have to wash the dishes and clean the kitchen, adding more time to the job.
 
In summary, while there are many pros and cons to each mealtime decision, the choice to stay in and cook can have many long-term benefits. If you enjoy saving money and ensuring better health while sacrificing personal time, then going out is not the best option. Either way, this deliberation is sure to be a hot topic for years to come.
